Most of us remember someone who opened a door.
Be that person for a young person in your community. It can start with a single conversation, and we make it simple.
I want to help
You have spent years learning your craft. To a curious young person, an hour of your time can be the thing that makes a career feel real and reachable. You do not need to be famous, and you do not need to be a teacher. You just need real experience and a willingness to share it. Open Circuit handles the logistics and connects you with young people who want to learn from someone doing exactly what you do.
Pick what fits your life
You choose how you want to be involved. Many mentors start small and do more once they see the impact.

A single conversation or a small-group Q&A about what you do and how you got there.

Let a few curious young people see what a studio, lab, firm, kitchen, or job site really looks like.

Teach one skill you love, the way only someone who does it for a living can.

Invite a young person to spend part of a day alongside you in your field.

Help a young person move an idea forward with a little guidance from a pro.

Share the real story of your career, including the detours and the dead ends.

Questions mentors ask
Do I need special credentials or teaching experience?
No. If you have real experience in your field and you are glad to share it, you are exactly who young people want to hear from.
How much time does it take?
As little as one conversation. You decide how involved you want to be, and we work around your schedule. Many people start with a single session.
Is this a paid role?
Mentoring with Open Circuit is a volunteer, give-back role. It is a way to invest in the next generation and your community.
Where do these take place?
In-person opportunities start in the Austin metro and Central Texas. Some conversations and panels can happen virtually.
What ages will I be working with?
Young people roughly ages 10 to 18, from every kind of educational background.
What about safety?
The wellbeing of young people comes first. We are putting our safeguarding practices in place as we launch, and we are glad to answer any questions when we talk.
Tell us you're interested
No commitment. We'll reach out to learn a little about you and find a good fit.
